" Establishing lasting peace is the work of education; all politics can do is keep us out of war."

~ Maria Montessori

Our Goals

Our Curriculum

Our classroom is thoughtfully prepared to meet the needs of the pre-school/kindergarten child.

Practical Life: For the young learner, there is something special about tasks we may consider ordinary. Children love the opportunity to imitate the adults in their life and look for meaningful activities, so we offer opportunities to do tasks such as polishing shoes, washing cloths and dishes, and cutting and serving apples. By breaking down the activities into simple steps, the children can build on their successes and gain confidence. Meanwhile, they are also strengthening their hand-eye co-ordination, fine motor control and independence.

Sensorial: A child interacts with life through all their senses. By sorting, building, matching, and classifying, she will grow in her perceptions of her world. The activities available in this area are designed to help refine the senses of color, shape, size, weight, smell, and texture. We also add more open-ended materials for creativity.

Mathematics: The materials developed by Maria Montessori were among the first designed to be "hands-on". Through the use of concrete manipulatives, the child can gain a real understanding of what numbers mean and what he can do with them; ranging from counting and numeral identification to understanding of the decimal system, operations, fractions, and much more.

Language: From pre-reading activities such as matching, sorting, and storytelling to beginning reading, writing and understanding the use of words, this area offers something for every child. When children demonstrate an eagerness to read, we use a phonetic approach with multi-sensory materials. Working individually, we can help guide each child at their own pace.

Geography and Science: Children are born naturalists; curious and eager to learn about their world and the plants and animals that inhabit it. Our classroom helps enhance their innate love of nature through in-depth studies. We also demonstrate our connection and community with all peoples through study of other cultures as well as service projects.

The Arts: Creativity happens in all areas of the classroom. Children at this area are typically process, rather than product, oriented. We honor that developmental stage by introducing a variety of art materials and building basic skills that will enable them to create. We strive to cultivate self-expression and inner peace through art, music, yoga, and other movement activities.
